The MADRIX® KEY is the USB dongle on which your MADRIX 5 licence is stored. This KEY is empty: you activate the licence you need on it and can upgrade it to a higher level later if required.

What the KEY is made for
- A new MADRIX 5 licence: every licence needs its own KEY
- Moving from MADRIX 2 or 3 with an old, green plastic KEY: MADRIX 5 only works with the metallic KEYs
- Taking the licence with you: it is tied to the KEY, not to the computer
- Use without internet: after the one-time activation the KEY also works offline
Not suitable for
- Output without a licence: an empty KEY unlocks nothing, for that you need a MADRIX 5 licence
- Several licences on one KEY: according to the manufacturer only one MADRIX 5 licence is possible per KEY

Connection
Your licence in three steps
- Order. Order the KEY together with the matching MADRIX 5 licence. The licence arrives by e-mail as an activation file with a ticket number.
- Plug in. Connect the KEY to the computer and start MADRIX 5.
- Activate. In the menu Help › MADRIX KEY › Activate MADRIX KEY… enter the ticket number. Activation needs an internet connection once.
Without a KEY or without a licence on the KEY, MADRIX 5 runs in demo mode: the preview works, output via Art-Net, DMX, sACN and DVI is blocked.

Frequently asked questions
Is there a licence on the KEY?
No. The KEY is empty. You order the MADRIX 5 licence separately and activate it on the KEY.
Can I load several licences onto one KEY?
No. According to the manufacturer only one MADRIX 5 licence is possible per KEY. The licence can, however, be upgraded to a higher level at any time.
Does my old green KEY work with MADRIX 5?
No. MADRIX 5 only works with the metallic KEYs. For MADRIX 5 you then need this KEY.
Do I need internet?
Only once for activation. After that the KEY also works without an internet connection.
