The MADRIX® STELLA 8 converts Art-Net or sACN into DMX512 and vice versa: eight ports, each individually configurable as output or input. It adds RDM, real-time merging of several sources and power via the network cable (PoE).

Is this right for my project?

What the STELLA 8 is made for

Connecting larger numbers of DMX fixtures, dimmers or pixel controllers with DMX input to an Art-Net or sACN network, up to eight universes on one device
Feeding DMX signals from consoles into the network, every port can also be used as an input
Refreshing, combining or distributing signals: as booster, merger or splitter
Setting up and monitoring fixtures via RDM, up to 170 RDM devices per port
Installation in a control cabinet on a 35 mm DIN rail or wall mounting, optionally powered via PoE

Not suitable for

Only one or two universes: the STELLA with two ports is enough
Pixel LEDs directly without a DMX controller: the STELLA 8 outputs DMX, not SPI pixel data
Outdoor mounting: the housing is rated IP20

Good to know: according to the manufacturer, RDM devices on the STELLA 8 are automatically unlocked for MADRIX RADAR; you do not need a RADAR fusion licence for these devices.

Connection

Up and running in three steps

Power. PoE via the right-hand network port, 5–24 V DC to the screw terminal or 5 V via USB‑C.
Connect DMX. The DMX cables to the 3-pin terminals of ports 1 to 8.
Set up. In the web interface set direction and universe for each port, configure merging and backup if needed, then send Art-Net or sACN.

The STELLA 8 outputs DMX, not SPI pixel data. Pixel LEDs need a DMX-capable pixel controller behind it.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a RADAR licence for RDM devices on the STELLA 8?

No. According to the manufacturer, RDM devices on the STELLA 8 are automatically unlocked for MADRIX RADAR. You only need a fusion licence for devices on nodes from other manufacturers.

Can the STELLA 8 merge several sources?

Yes. It combines several data streams into one output signal in real time and can switch to another source on connection loss or by priority.

How does the STELLA 8 differ from the STELLA?

The STELLA 8 has eight DMX ports instead of two, network ports with 1 Gbit/s instead of 100 Mbit/s, USB‑C, and it can be powered via PoE.

Is a power supply included?

No. You power the STELLA 8 via PoE, via USB‑C or with 5–24 V DC at the screw terminal.
