12 volts, 22 amps, IP65 — LED driver for indoor and outdoor use
The MEAN WELL HLG-320H-12A is an LED power supply with constant voltage and constant current: 12 V, up to 22 A, 264 W. The encapsulated aluminium case is protected to IP65, the driver is cooled without a fan and is connected via connection leads. Output voltage and current limit can be set at two potentiometers.

Is it right for my project?
What this power supply is made for
- 12 V LED strips, 12 V pixels and LED luminaires — also outdoors
- Installations where the current is to be limited: current limit adjustable from 11 to 22 A
- Universal input 90–305 V AC with active PFC
- Case temperature (Tc) −40 to +90 °C, no fan
What it is not for
- 5 V pixels — see the 5 volt power supplies
- Dimming via 1–10 V or PWM: the A-type has no dimming input
- Continuous operation directly on the mains: according to Mean Well only operate behind a switch, not permanently connected to the mains
- Connection by non-specialists: the 230 V mains connection must be made by a qualified electrician
Also required: a mains switch in front of the driver, a connection of the leads with a suitable protection rating and fusing of the output.

Connection
Up and running in four steps
- Work de-energised. Before any installation, disconnect the system from the mains and secure it against being switched back on.
- Mount. Screw it down via the mounting tabs and keep 10–15 cm away from other heat sources. The temperature at the Tc measuring point must not exceed +90 °C; derating per the datasheet.
- Connect the output. Red lead to +V, black lead to −V. Choose the cross-section of the onward wiring according to the current and fuse the output; outdoors, make the connection watertight.
- Connect the mains and switch on. Brown lead to L, blue to N, green/yellow to earth — via a switch. After switching on, measure the voltage at the load and adjust at the potentiometers if necessary.
Caution: The output voltage must suit your LEDs. Never set the voltage potentiometer above the value stated by the LED manufacturer.

- Risk of electric shock: installation and mains connection by a qualified electrician only; do not open the case. The earth conductor must be connected.
- Protection rating IP65: dust-tight and protected against water jets — do not immerse in water.
- Case temperature (Tc) −40 to +90 °C; at high temperatures the load must be reduced (curve in the datasheet).
- Output current and output power must not exceed the rated values (22 A, 264 W).
- According to the manufacturer, only operate behind a switch, not permanently connected to the mains.
- The driver is a component for installation in end equipment; electromagnetic compatibility must be re-verified in the finished installation.

Frequently asked questions
What does constant voltage plus constant current mean?
Up to the set current limit, the driver keeps the output voltage constant at 12 V — as LED strips and pixels need. If the load draws more, it limits the current. It then uses the range between 6 and 12 V as a constant current source.
Can I adjust voltage and current?
Yes. The A-type has two potentiometers on the case: voltage 10.8 to 13.5 V, current limit 11 to 22 A.
Can I use the driver outdoors?
Yes. The case is protected to IP65: dust-tight and protected against water jets. It does not tolerate immersion. You have to make the connections of the leads watertight yourself.
Which standards has the unit been tested to?
According to the manufacturer, EN 61347-1 and EN 61347-2-13 (LED control gear) and UL 8750. The details are in the datasheet in the Documents section.
