12 volts, 3 amps, fully encapsulated to IP67
The MEAN WELL LPV-35-12 is a constant-voltage power supply with 12 V and 36 W in a fully encapsulated plastic case. It is protected to IP67, suitable for indoor and outdoor use without direct sunlight and is connected via connection leads. It is cooled without a fan and is double insulated (protection class II, no earth conductor).

What this power supply is made for
- Display and advertising devices and decorative accessories with 12 V electronics — this is how Mean Well describes its intended use
- General-purpose electronics in dusty or damp environments
- Installation in displays, signs and enclosures, also outdoors without direct sunlight
- Smaller loads up to 3 A at 12 V, without a fan
What it is not for
- LED luminaires for lighting purposes in the EU — Mean Well provides other series for this (LPF, NPF, XLG)
- 5 V devices — see the 5 volt power supplies
- Permanently under water or in blazing sun: the case withstands brief immersion of up to 30 minutes, but not direct sunlight
- Connection by non-specialists: the 230 V mains connection must be made by a qualified electrician
Also required: a mains supply lead, a connection of the leads with a suitable protection rating
if it is outdoors, and fusing of the output.

Connection
Up and running in four steps
- Work de-energised. Before any installation, disconnect the system from the mains and secure it against being switched back on.
- Mount. Screw it down via the mounting tabs. Do not place anything on the case and keep 10–15 cm away from other heat sources; for mounting orientation and derating at high ambient temperature see the derating curve in the datasheet.
- Connect the output. Red lead to +V, black lead to −V. Choose the cross-section of the onward wiring according to the current and fuse the output; outdoors, make the connection watertight.
- Connect the mains and switch on. Brown lead to L, blue lead to N. There is no earth conductor, the unit is double insulated. After switching on, measure the voltage at the load.
Caution: The output voltage is fixed and cannot be adjusted. Before connecting, check that 12 V
suits your device.

Safety instructions
- Risk of electric shock: installation and mains connection by a qualified electrician only; do not open the case.
- For indoor and outdoor use without direct sunlight. Do not immerse in water for longer than 30 minutes.
- Operating temperature −30 to +65 °C; at high ambient temperature the load must be reduced (derating curve in the datasheet).
- Output current and output power must not exceed the rated values (3 A, 36 W).
- According to the manufacturer, not intended for LED luminaires for lighting purposes in the EU.
- The power supply is a component for installation in end equipment; electromagnetic compatibility must be re-verified in the finished installation.

Frequently asked questions
Can I adjust the output voltage?
No. The LPV-35-12 has a fixed output voltage of 12 V with a tolerance of ±5 %; there is no
potentiometer. If you need to adjust the voltage, you need a power supply with an adjustable output.
Can I use the power supply outdoors?
Yes, outdoors without direct sunlight. The case is fully encapsulated to IP67; Mean Well advises
not to immerse it in water for longer than 30 minutes. You have to make the connections of the leads watertight
yourself.
Why is it not intended for LED luminaires?
Mean Well does not release the LPV range for LED luminaires for lighting purposes in the EU and
names the LPF, NPF and XLG series for this. According to the manufacturer it is intended for display and advertising
devices, decorative accessories and general-purpose electronics.
Which standards has the unit been tested to?
According to the manufacturer, IEC 62368-1 and EN 62368-1. The details are in the datasheet in
the Documents section.
