Buying guide

The right power supply in three steps

  1. Same voltage as the pixels: 5 V pixels on a 5 V supply, 12 V pixels on a 12 V supply.
  2. Power with headroom: add up the power of all strings or strips at full white and divide by 0.8 – so the supply runs at no more than 80 %. Details in the guide Calculating the power supply for LED pixels.
  3. Design by location: outdoors fully potted with IP67, in a control cabinet or enclosure a metal-housed supply.

Connection to 230 V must be carried out by a qualified electrician.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

How big does the power supply need to be?

Add up the power of all strings or strips at full white and divide by 0.8. Example: 10 pixel strings 12 V at 36 W each = 360 W, with headroom 450 W – split across two supplies, for instance. See Calculating the power supply for LED pixels.

Which power supply can go outdoors?

The fully potted LPV, LPF and NPF series with IP67, the HLG-320H with IP65. Metal-housed supplies without an IP rating are meant for installation and must be protected from moisture – more in the guide LED pixels outdoors.

What does "adjustable voltage" mean?

The output voltage can be fine-tuned within a narrow range, for example 4.3 to 5.8 V on the HRP-300-5. The ranges are given in each product.

May I connect the power supply myself?

The low-voltage side to the pixels, yes. Connection to 230 V must be carried out by a qualified electrician.
