Pixel string or pixel strip?

For objects, trees and façades with space between the points of light, choose pixel strings. For fine lines and contours, choose pixel strips. Details in the guide WS2811 or WS2812B?; for 12 V strings see Resistor or regulated?.

The xConnect® connector system

  • For outdoors: connectors, extensions and T-connectors are rated IP65 and specified for −40 to +120 °C.
  • T-connectors between strings: the lead cable feeds the start of the run, a T-connector feeds every further joint between two strings, nothing at the end. Number of T-connectors = strings − runs.
  • Every joint, not just every other one: two 100-pixel strings together draw up to 12 A, while one contact handles at most 10 A.

How big the power supply needs to be is explained in the guide Calculating the power supply for LED pixels.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Resistor or regulated – which one?

Resistor is enough for short runs and decoration; for long strings and outdoors we recommend regulated: the pixels stay equally bright along the length. Details in the guide Resistor or regulated?.

How many T-connectors do I need?

Strings minus runs. Three strings in one run need two T-connectors, 10 strings in two runs need eight.

Which controller drives the pixels?

For example with the PixLite controllers from Advatek Lighting; which pixels suit them is shown in Compatible pixels for PixLite Mk3.

May I connect the power supply myself?

The low-voltage side to the pixels, yes. Connection to 230 V must be carried out by a qualified electrician.
