WS2811 RGB Square Pixel String (12 V DC) – 12 mm lay-flat, 10 cm pitch, IP68

Addressable RGB pixel string with WS2811 data signal (single-wire NZR) for 12 V installations. The square / lay-flat housing is designed for flush mounting on flat materials (e.g. coro/panels, signs, matrix builds): defined orientation, cleaner front appearance and less “twist” in the substrate. For repeatable results, proper power distribution, sensible injection points and a consistent GND reference between controller, PSU and string are essential.

WS2811 – protocol & technical background

WS2811 is a widely used standard for digitally addressable RGB pixels. Data is transmitted as single-wire NZR (typically up to 800 kHz). Each pixel consumes its data (usually 24 bit) and forwards the remaining stream to the next pixel in the chain.

Pixels are IP68 (potted). For permanent outdoor installs, the connector system and mechanics also matter. xConnect® is typically designed for robust outdoor connections. How long is a string with 10 cm pitch?
Roughly: 50 pixels ≈ 5 m, 100 pixels ≈ 10 m (plus lead wires – depending on option).
When do I need power injection?
When voltage drop becomes visible under load (brightness/color shift) or measurements at the end of a segment drop too far. Define injection points by measuring under load.
Why square / lay-flat instead of bullet?
Square / lay-flat pixels are optimized for flat-panel mounting (coro/panels, signs, matrix panels): flush seating, defined orientation and typically a cleaner front appearance in rows/matrices.
Which connector should I choose – JST-SM or xConnect®?
Choose based on your controller/extension system. For robust outdoor connections, xConnect® is typically the better choice. Outdoors, JST-SM usually requires extra sealing and strain relief.
What should I check first if there is flicker?
1) common ground (GND) between controller/injection/string, 2) data direction (DIN/DO), 3) voltage under load at the start (and end if needed), 4) long data leads/EMI – add buffer/conditioning if required.
